JST/NBDC Database Integration Cordination Program

Deciphering Systemic Biological Functions by Integration of Genomic and Environmental Information

Principal Investigator

Minoru Kanehisa, Institute for Chemical Research, Kyoto University

Research Period

April 2011 - March 2014

Summary

More than twenty years ago the Human Genome Project was initiated with the promises of medical and social benefits. These promises were long overdue, but thanks to the continuous development of high-throughput experimental technologies together with improved bioinformatics technologies, the time may have finally come for bringing the genomic revolution to society. In order to meet the needs of translational bioinformatics, we develop an integrated database that links scientific knowledge on diseases, drugs and health-related substances to practical information, such as drug labels, used in society.
